'Puppy' the Shar Pei and her common eye problem

Puppy is a 5 week old Shar Pei who visited us with sore, swollen eyes. It was only recently that she opened her eyes for the first time, but once open, her owners soon noticed something was wrong.

When examined, it soon became obvious that Puppy's upper and lower eyelids on both sides were rolling in abnormally; this was causing quite a bit of irritation to the surface of both eyes.

Jack Russell Lucy requires exploratory surgery that "leads" to a diagnosis.......

On Melbourne Cup Eve, Lucy, a female Jack Russell Terrier came into the Blackburn Veterinary Centre as she had been flat and off her food for a number of days. She has been known to chew her leads and she had eaten part of her lead the previous Thursday evening.

This led us to a clinical suspicion of a bowel blockage. Further diagnostic testing; in this case - abdominal x-rays were performed and confirmed our suspicions that part of the lead she had eaten was stuck in her gastrointestinal tract.

Sophie the Rottweiler's tooth ache

Sophie is the loveliest, most gentle Rottweiler around. So when she came in for her health checkup it was no problem for Doctor Andrew to give her a thorough examination, including the inside of her mouth. Her owner was concerned - the teeth on the left hand side of Sophie's mouth were as perfect as when they first erupted 6 years ago. But the right hand side teeth were showing signs of plaque and tartar build up. Sophie was allocated a Grading of 2 (out of 4) for the severity of her dental disease.

Kelly's massive new family

Here is "Kelly" and her beautiful pups. "Kelly" is a golden labrador who managed to give birth to 10 healthy black puppies. 7 boys and 3 girls.

She was presented to the clinic on June 4th so that her puppies could receive their first vaccination and health checks.

They were wormed and microchipped as well (with barely a whimper). The pups were all very brave, and such an even litter.

Accident prone Smoot

Smoot is a seven year old Mastiff cross. She has suffered from many injuries during her life, ranging from the simple (cut foot pads) to the complex (fractured radius in 2000). But in a great example of "they never learn", Smoot managed to escape from the backyard again. And what a great job she did this time.

Proud mum, Annie the Golden Retriever

Annie Johnson is a beautiful 2 year old Golden Retriever who visited our clinic with 6 very cute 3 day old puppies. Annie had no trouble delivering the puppies and was well looked after by her doting parents, Wendy and Ian.

Pebbles undergoes physiotherapy after 'footballers' surgery

Pebbles is a beautiful seven year old golden American Cocker Spaniel. It was late in March when she was chasing a ball at the local park. Unfortunately the cruciate ligament, which lives in the knee of her left hind leg, couldn't take the strain - it ruptured!

A rather hot fright for Gus's owners

Gus a Pomeranian presented to us at the clinic on a hot afternoon after his owners had come home to find that he had collapsed. "Gus" was gasping for air, blue in the gums and had a temperature of 42.5. It was obvious from this that he was suffering from heat exhaustion.

Not happy Jan! Brandy's day at the park ends at the clinic

Meet "Brandy" a two and half year old Beagle. "Brandy" belongs to Michelle, one of our veterinary nurses. Recently while on a walk "Brandy" was off the lead running through long grass enjoying herself until she received a nasty shock.

Rosie's story ... a bladder problem solved

"Rosie" recently visited our clinic after her owner noticed she was having difficulty urinating. She was passing small amounts of urine frequently, and it also contained blood. There are a number of reasons why a dog may have blood in their urine. Therefore, our vet recommended further tests.
